India Trips

A refreshing journey in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

I had a business trip to Coimbatore some time ago and in the evenings I got to spend some time around exploring the quaint city of Coimbatore. An amazing city rooted in tradition but now getting modernized is a great place to spend a weekend.

As the sun set over the lush landscapes of Coimbatore, I embarked on a journey filled with culture, spirituality, and vibrant experiences. My first stop was the ancient marvel of Perur Temple, where history whispered through its intricately carved pillars and sacred sanctuaries. It was a privilege visiting one of the oldest temple built in India and Tamil Nadu – Called the Perur patteeshwarar Temple , dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built by Karikala Chola in 2nd Century CE, this is undoubtedly a most historic temple and a beautiful one at that!

Nestled on the banks of the Noyyal River, Perur Temple greeted me with its majestic gopurams adorned with mythical creatures and celestial beings. Stepping into its hallowed grounds felt like stepping back in time, immersed in the spirituality that has echoed through centuries. The fragrance of incense mingled with the melodious chants of devotees, creating an atmosphere of serenity and devotion.

Exploring the temple’s architecture was a visual feast. The sculpted figures depicting mythological tales, the ornate ceilings adorned with colorful paintings, and the serene courtyard filled with devotees performing rituals painted a vivid picture of Coimbatore’s rich cultural heritage.

Later, I went shopping with friends to the saree street of Coimbatore and shopped around for a few sarees for myself and family. Loved the spree draping experience and felt like a queen. The saree store itself was very appealing with historing weaving machines, beautiful wall murals and Tanjaavoor painting made of gold painting wall to wall!.

Further wandering through the narrow lanes, I discovered a treasure trove of silk sarees, each telling a story of tradition and artistry. From timeless Kanjivarams to delicate Banarasis, the variety was mesmerizing. Local artisans showcased their skills, weaving magic into every thread, making each saree a masterpiece.

Engaging with the locals added a personal touch to my experience. They shared tales of the saree-making process, from selecting the finest silk to weaving intricate patterns passed down through generations. It was not just a shopping expedition but a cultural immersion, understanding the significance of sarees in Indian heritage.

As the day drew to a close, I reflected on my journey through Coimbatore. From the spiritual serenity of Perur Temple to the vibrant tapestry of Saree Street, every moment was a testament to the city’s rich tapestry of history, culture, and craftsmanship. Coimbatore had woven its way into my heart, leaving me with memories to cherish forever.

I enjoyed some amazingly fresh vegeterian Satvik foods, and an earthily weather. All in all, I need to go back to this place to see more temples and the ISHA center.
