A rhythmic chande procession experience!

Recently I had the privilege of attending Shree Guruvayoorappan Temple procession. The procession started around sunset. After the sunset hundreds of lamps adorned the area giving a vibrant glow and ambience. Many sumangalis decorated their pooja plates with diyas and stood in devotion to honor the Lord Krishna.

Lord Krishna majestically sat on the elephant and the procession went around the temple. The main highlight here was also the Kerala Chande beats. The Chande artists, and students performed non stop on the chande – a percussion instrument of Kerala. It was an amazing and memorable feat! Wondered how many hours of practice went into this kind of achievement. Hats off to all performers.

It was a beautiful experience for the whole family to have experienced traditions rooted in Indian cultures. We felt blissful and ended it with a traditional Kerala rice dinner. That was wonderful too. Until next time …onwards!
